OTTAWA

The Jewish community is cordially invited to celebrate the Festival of Freedom at free community seders. Thanks to the generosity of, and in partnership with, Young Israel, and Valley Stream Manor, Jewish Family Services is proud to host Passover Seders on both nights, at Baseline/Richmond on Monday, March 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. and in the Carling/Queensway area on Tuesday, March 30, from 8:30 p.m. approximately until midnight. CENTRETOWN

The Ottawa Independent Writers group will hold a Social Networking Workshop on Saturday, March 13, led by writer and editor Murray McGregor and David Shaw of Ottawa's Workplace Institute, who will explain how to use social networking tools like Facebook and Twitter to connect to other writers, research and promote their works. Centretown Citizens Community Association meets on the third Tuesday of each month, usually in the Billings Room of Ottawa City Hall, 110 Laurier Avenue West.

Free English classes for newcomers to Canada have started. OCISO LINC is pleased to offer a supportive and friendly learning environment, with free quality childcare. New Canadians can also practise their computer skills, access employment workshops and settlement counselling, and learn about Canadian culture and lifestyles through guest speakers and field trips. LOWERTOWN

The Lowertown Community Association meets on the second Monday of each month at the Routhier Community Centre, 172 Guigues Avenue.

A pancake breakfast will be held every second Sunday of the month, from 10 a.m. to noon at the St. Brigid's Centre, home of the National Irish Canadian Cultural Centre, 310 St. Patrick Street. Also on the menu is bacon, sausages, home fries, juice, fruit, tea/coffee. Enjoy live music from the Ottawa Valley, as well as of the traditional Irish variety. VANIER

The Vanier Community Association meets on the second Tuesday of every month at the Richelieu-Vanier Centre, 300 Avenue des Peres Blancs, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The next meetings will be held on March 10, April 13, May 11 and the Annual General Meeting on June 8.

A St. Patrick's Day Banquet will be held on Sunday, March 14 at 5 p.m. at the Assumption Parish Hall, 321 Cody Street. Great Irish entertainment on tap. Tickets will be sold at all weekend masses or call Carmel Wrinn at 613-746-8503 or the parish office at 613-746-8503 from 1 to 5 p.m. on weekdays only.

The Loyal Order of Moose and Women of the Moose, host Jam Sessions every Tuesday from 4 p.m. with members and guests at 303 Kendall Street. Meals are served, with a side of live entertainment, every day except Monday, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. For more information, please call 613-741-4409.

Help support our troops, our veterans and our legions by coming out to enjoy live music every Saturday and Sunday at the Eastview Legion Branch 462 at 294 Cyr Street. Shuffleboard is played every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, while darts are played every Monday and Thursday. LA Suppers are served every Sunday. Sign up sheets are located in the sports room. THE GLEBE

On Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6, Ottawa's Seventeen Voyces chamber choir, directed by Kevin Reeves, will present the 1924 silent film classic Ben-Hur at St. Matthew's Church, 130 Glebe Avenue. The film will be projected onto a large screen, accompanied by live choral music. For more information, please click on seventeenvoyces.ca.

Glebe St. James United Church, 650 Lyon Street at First Avenue, will be hosting several concerts this month as part of their Concerts-in-The-Glebe series. The church welcomes the Cheng Brothers on cello and piano on Sunday, March 7. Admission is $10, $7 for students and seniors. Admission by donation is always welcome. Looking for a quiet moment in your busy week? St. Matthew's Anglican Church, 130 Glebe Avenue, just west of Bank Street, is open Monday to Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for those seeking reflection and rest. On Mondays, you will hear the organist playing, while on Wednesdays you can join a group in the Chapel for Christian meditation. On the third Thursday of each month, the Book Club meets. ROCKCLIFFE PARK

The Rockcliffe Park Residents Association meets on the third Wednesday of the month at 7:15 p.m. at the Rockcliffe Park Community Hall, 380 Springfield Road.

NEW EDINBURGH

An Antiques Evaluation Day will be held on Saturday, April 24, at MacKay United Church, 39 Dufferin Road. Janet Carlile, an accredited antiques appraiser, will be on hand to look over your treasures.

The New Edinburgh Community Alliance meets on the third Monday of the month, at 7:30 p.m. at the New Edinburgh Field House, 193 Stanley Avenue at 7:30 p.m.

SANDY HILL

Enjoy "Music for Lent," at All Saint's Church, 317 Chapel Street, on Wednesdays during Lent, March 4, 11, 18 and 25. The concert series features students and ensembles from the University of Ottawa's School of Music. The concerts take place from 12:15 until 1 p.m. Free will offering. OVERBROOK

The Community Council of Overbrook meets every third Thursday of the month, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Overbook Community Centre, 33 Quill Street, ever month.

The Board Games Club meets every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Overbrook Community Centre, 33 Quill Street. Free admission, board games provided. Teens, adults and seniors welcome.

MANOR PARK

St. Columba Anglican Church at 24 Sandridge Road will be celebrating its 50th anniversary with a week of festivities from Saturday, March 6 until Wednesday, March 17, with a special service with Anglican Bishop John Chapman on Sunday, March 7.
